How to Bookmark a Website in Safari on Your iPhone So You Can Find It Again
July 13, 2026 · by Porchswing Technology
Remember keeping a little address book by the phone, with the numbers you called most often written right at the front? Or slipping a scrap of paper into a cookbook to mark grandmother's biscuit recipe?
Your iPhone has the same idea for websites. It's called a bookmark — a saved shortcut to a page you want to come back to, without having to remember the address or type it in again. Here's how to make one.
Finding the Bookmark Button
Let's say you've just found a website you love — maybe your local newspaper, a weather page, or the church calendar. It's on your screen right now in Safari (that's the built-in web browser on your iPhone, with the blue compass icon).
Look at the very bottom of the screen. You'll see a row of little symbols. The one you want is in the middle: a square with an arrow pointing up out of it. That's the Share button. Give it a tap.
A menu will slide up from the bottom, covering the lower half of your screen with a list of choices.
Saving the Bookmark
Scroll down that menu a little bit — just drag your finger upward on the list — until you see Add Bookmark. It has a small open-book icon next to it. Tap it.
A new window will pop up showing the name of the website. You can leave the name as is, or tap on it and shorten it to something you'll recognize later. For example, if the name is long and complicated, you might change it to just "Weather" or "Church Bulletin."
When the name looks right, tap Save in the top right corner. That's it — your bookmark is tucked away safely.
Finding Your Bookmark Later
Now, the whole point of a bookmark is being able to come back to it. Here's how.
Open Safari again — even days or weeks later. At the bottom of the screen, look for a symbol that looks like an open book. Tap it.
You'll see a list of everything you've bookmarked. Just tap the name of the site you want, and Safari will take you right there. No typing, no searching, no trying to remember the address.
A Small Tip About Tidying Up
Over time, your bookmark list can grow long. If you want to remove one you no longer need, open the bookmark list (that open-book icon), then tap Edit in the bottom right corner.
A little red circle will appear next to each bookmark. Tap the red circle next to the one you want to remove, then tap Delete. When you're done, tap Done in the corner. Nothing here is permanent — you can always bookmark the site again later.
Try It Today
Think of one website you visit often — the one you find yourself typing into the address bar again and again. Open it in Safari right now, tap the Share button (square with the arrow), scroll to Add Bookmark, and save it.
The next time you want to visit, it'll be waiting for you with two taps instead of twenty.
